Did you know that as of January 1st of this year, Walgreens is no longer a part of the Express Script's pharmacy provider network? Walgreens and Express Script were in negotiations for the last year, and the negotiations were not successful. This includes all nationwide Walgreens pharmacies including the Duane Reade pharmacies in the New York city area.
This is causing patients to go to other pharmacies to stay in-network. This means locating the new pharmacy, working with a new pharmacist, hoping they have the convenience of 24 hours like so many Walgreens, possibly driving farther away and using more gas. All this and you aren't going to be saving any money. In fact, your costs could be going up because Walgreens uses competitive pricing, using less expensive generics, and offering savings with 90 day fills instead of 3 30 day fills. Only certain prescription plans are affected, so make sure that you check with your insurance company.
Walgreens wants to help- with the Walgreens Prescription Savings Club. They are offering special rates through the month of January; $5 for an individual and $10 for a family. (Regular membership rates are $20 for an individual and $35 for a family). You'll recieve savings on over 8,000 brand name and generic medications. Did you know there are more than 400 generics with a three month supply at less than $1 a week? You also get discounts on flu shots, diabetic supplies, nebulizers and even pet prescriptions.
You can support Walgreens and stay up to date by following Walgreens on Twitter and liking Walgreens on Facebook.
